This painting depicts the Huanqi Temple in the southern city of Dongguan, China. I had traveled there for a commission in 2012 and wanted so much to paint this temple upon return. My photos didn’t capture what I had seen though, and so I went searching on Instagram. I found a photo by @captainandthesea (Greg Breitmaier) and he agreed to let me use this for the painting.
