Artist’s Description: Abbot Kinney caught my attention one day on a drive through Venice, CA. There are days when particular streets seem magical. I stopped my car in the middle of the street that day and snapped a few photos before the honks from drivers who approached hustled me along. Photos from that day inspired the diptych Abbot Kinney 1 & Abbot Kinney 2.
I painted Abbot Kinney 1 under the shade of one of my favorite trees. My then love sat on a nearby chaise lawn chair reading. He put a funny song on his phone, the perfect inspiration for bad dance moves, laughter, and an opportunity for me to mess up the lyrics while I sang along and painted.
