Artist’s Description: The day I captured this image, I spent hours in Beverly Hills near this intersection taking photos of the cars going by. I was really there to hunt taxi cabs. Each time one went by it might have seemed like I had won the lottery. It became a bit of game for me to watch for the perfect compositions to pass by. The architecture of the Beverly Wilshire with the awnings and flags had drawn me to this location for the hunt. Later the photo that inspired this painting reminded me of a black and white film where only one object had color. In my mind, I processed this image in a similar way. I filtered away the rest of the scene and highlighted the parts that captured my attention. I saw this as a mirror for what the human brain does naturally, filter for information that is most meaningful to us. The energy in this painting also addressed a range of feelings I have had about my time in Beverly Hills over the years.
