Silverlake Crossing | 32″ x 30″ x 1.75″ | ink, oil & acrylic on canvas | by Brooke Harker | SOLD

original painting by Brooke Harker. Artist’s Description: I developed an appreciation of the Silverlake area in Los Angeles the year prior to making this painting. I went there weekly to participate in a deep meditation practice. One of the days after my meditation, I wandered with my camera and captured an image of a mother walking across the street at Parkman with her little boy. There was something about how she carried his backpack that captured my attention.

Irish Pub | 45″ x 22″ | ink & acrylic on canvas | by Brooke Harker | SOLD

original painting by Brooke Harker, 2012. I have many memories from this Irish Pub in Wiesbaden Germany. Many nights I walked there to meet friends, hear live music, sing and harass my favorite bartender. This painting now lives in Dongguan, China, at Murray’s Irish pub, which is owned by the man who once mixed my white Russians at the Irish Pub in Wiesbaden.

Laguna Asleep | 36″ x 42″ x 2.75″ | ink & acrylic on canvas | by Brooke Harker | SOLD

original painting by Brooke Harker, 2012. I often walk down the street in this painting when I stay in Laguna Beach.  There is a charm and elegance in this area that feels like home.  At midnight on my birthday in 2012, I stood outside sketching this street, then I colored in the sketch in the dark.  Once in the light I laughed as my color choices by street light were not quite my intention.  This painting took on its own energy that is quite different from the feeling I have walking  in Laguna at night.  However, the painting started from...

Tokyo Lights | 36″ x 36″ x .75″ | ink, oil & acrylic on canvas | by Brooke Harker

original painting by Brooke Harker. Artist’s Description: I lived in Tokyo for one summer during college and worked for the Tokyo American Embassy with children. I wandered during my free time, took photos and randomly got on subways without knowing where I was going.  My camera at the time was 35mm, so developing 20 rolls of film upon my return to the states was a treat. It was exciting to see what I had captured although generally the reunion with images brought a mix of feelings. I felt thankful to have seen treasures, then felt disappointment to discover that I had not captured...

Fiori di Roma | 42 x 74 | ink, oil and acrylic on canvas | by Brooke Harker | SOLD

original painting by Brooke Harker. Fiori di Roma (Flowers of Rome) celebrates spring in Rome as flowers bloom in front of Santa Maria di Loreto and Trajan’s Market & Forum (near Piazza Venezia and the Collosseum).  I finished this painting one year, to the day, after my return from a five month art residency in Italy.  As someone who often gets mesmerized by details, I prefer to experience the energy of a scene, verses attempt to absorb the intellectual history of a place immediately.  The formation of these buildings captivated my attention on many walks through Rome.  I only saw the...

Walking Rome | 26 x 40 | ink, oil & acrylic on canvas | by Brooke Harker | SOLD

original painting by Brooke Harker.  Walking Rome is my first painting on canvas of Rome inspired by the many wanderings through the city nearly a year before.  My eyes fixated on the woman in the pink dress, a modern figure among a city of such history.  I was drawn most to how the dress stretched over her body. She did not have the body of a model with flat abs and that didn’t stop her from expressing her femininity. This fascinated me.  I also wondered how she could walk on the cobblestone in those heals.  I attempted to wear the slightest heal and lost complete balance on the...
