Artist’s Description: I have developed an appreciation of people holding hands in public in recent years. There is an instant recognition of their connection that I appreciate. Now when I see couples holding hands as they walk through a scene, I say “thank you” in my head or a calm peaceful feeling rushes over me. With the couple portrayed in this painting, I also appreciated how her shopping bag matched the city so well. Sometimes I wish the people who show up in my paintings could know that somewhere in the world they made an artist’s day and will forever be immortalized in ink and oil.
The title Forever New Yorkers is both a salute to the many people who love New York with such passion and a play on words since the painting includes Forever 21, a store which I also appreciate.
