original painting by Brooke Harker, 2012.
I have had a long time fascination with the way laundry looks hanging on a line, or
how people live in apartments and hang laundry on lines outside their windows. A
couple years ago, a childhood friend contacted me about my paintings. She
let me know that they reminded her of her trip to Tanzania…I asked if I could see
photos…I fell in love with several of the images and asked if I could paint them. The
inspiration for this painting came from one of those photos by Naila Jean Meyers,
who is now a sports writer for the New York Times. It is exciting to see someone
I played the cello with in fourth grade, who was always obsessed with sports…
now writing about sports for one of the most major newspapers in the US…I’m
proud!
