Although this painting found it’s forever home a few days before the opening, I’m so excited that the new collector has allowed it to stay in California long enough to exhibit with it’s sister painting, Roman Holiday (see below). There’s nothing like a sister.

What I brought back from Italy…

Beyond bringing back inspiration from my 2019 trip to Italy, I did something that absolutely terrified me. I had some of the paintings I’d made there packed up and shipped to the Los Angeles. Although the paintings were of LA, they were born on a farm in Italy during a residency in 2015.

Even though my paintings have shipped to collectors in different parts of the world previously, there was something much more vulnerable to me in the risk of these artworks traveling overseas. They were part of one of my greatest adventures and each contained so many memories of a life-changing time.

I’d trusted the curator in Italy, Alfio Borghese to tour them since 2015. They had solo exhibits in Rome, Genoa, and Frosinone along with group exhibits in Boville Ernica and two Bienales in Frosninone & Anagni. It only took a little more guts to send them over the ocean and have faith they would be okay.

Although there were some interesting surprises in the shipping process, they all arrived safely in Los Angeles. (side note: for anyone looking for shipping angels in the ‘City of Angels’… I highly recommend Castelli Art & Framing…they are life savers on the LA side).

Five of these artworks will debut at Lu Martin Galleries for the first time in the U.S. this Thursday February 6, 2020 from 6-9pm during the Laguna Beach Artwalk.
