Testimonials for Commissioned Art

“Art has healing powers. And the power to lift people up when they are down. And that is a powerful thing and a huge contribution to the world. I love your art because it’s sunny and joyful. Life has enough not joyful moments and having your art reminds me of the world’s beauty.

We all love the painting! It is sunny and beautiful and uniquely your signature piece all at once! It will be loved and cherished. I am trying to teach my kids optimism (and myself too!) This will be a daily reminder. Everyone who sees the painting admires it. Your painting makes the room! I love the watercolors so much also!”

More about the experience of the collector:

“We knew we wanted a large statement piece for our family room in our new house, and we wanted it to be special to us and our family history. I have been following Brooke’s artistic career for a while and this was a perfect opportunity to finally work with her, so we commissioned Brooke to paint a beautiful scene of Rome for us.

It worked out perfectly as she was heading to Italy to paint on location that upcoming summer. Brooke was a delight to collaborate with. She is a true artist yet wanted the piece to be right for us. We discussed the size and the scenes in detail. She sent me lots of photos from location and then her sketches.

The result more than exceeded our expectations – we have a stunning piece to admire every day and it’s so very special to us.”

“Home Again” – San Francisco

“I never in a million years thought I would commission a painting, but that’s just what I did!  A painting Brooke made caught my eye and I thought about it many times after I saw it.

When I saw the painting a year later, I knew I had to contact the artist. When I hit the send button on my first email to Brooke, I had no idea where my message would lead, but after wringing my hands over size, shape and subject, I took a leap and agreed to move ahead.  I am so happy that I did!

Paintings of the South of France:

Lumière du Sud by Brooke Harker 30″ x 55″ ink, oil & acrylic on canvas

“Together with my parents, I commissioned Brooke to complete two paintings of my favorite spot in the south of France in the Camargue. I had spent countless vacations growing up in a little place called Le Grau du Roi.

With my parents getting older and me living halfway around the world the trips to this special place had unfortunately become no longer feasible. But Brooke managed to perfectly capture the atmosphere of this little fishing village with it’s boats and dock-side restaurants. One of the paintings went to live in Germany with my parents, while the other stayed with me. In a sense, the two paintings were a mirror bridging thousands of miles between the US, Germany and the south of France.”

Paris in Black and White:

painting “Sisters in Paris” (78″ x 55″ – ink & acrylic) alongside a kindred spirit on location in Asheville

“Commissioning Brooke Harker to paint my children in a Paris scene was a profound experience from start to finish. We sent her several photos of them walking on a street past the Eiffel Tower and she synthesized those separate moments into a single cohesive composition.

Brooke has a rare gift for capturing the essence of her subjects and the spirit of a place. She didn’t just paint their likenesses; she imbued the painting with the specific personality of each child. The final result is vibrant, living reflection of each one at that moment in time. If you are looking for an artist whose work goes beyond technical proficiency to reflect the unique spark of life that inhabits each person and location, I highly recommend Brooke’s work.”

A Road Within by Brooke Harker 54″x 36″ ink & acrylic on canvas

“I am happy and proud of having my commission. I always tell people about the painting and you. It is my one connection to Italy right now. I have such fond memories of my time there. Every morning after my walk, I lay down in the living room and put my feet up and look at the painting, every morning! I know the painting very well, it’s perfect.

You have a special spirit and energy that I don’t see in others. Keep that always.”

Dreams of Paris:

“Working with Brooke was an enjoyable and collaborative experience. She brought great ideas to the table and made the entire process feel like an adventure. The final painting is beautiful, and every time I see it, I am transported back to those wonderful memories of Paris. It brings me enormous happiness every day.”

Robin’s take on the process:

“I’ve known Brooke since our high school days, and throughout the years always admired her remarkable ability to create beautiful landscape paintings. Her artistic talent consistently impressed me and stood out in my memories.

In 2017, I had the opportunity to travel to Paris with our mutual friend Erika. During that trip, I fell in love with both the city and the iconic Eiffel Tower. The experience left a lasting impression on me, and Paris became a place I cherished deeply.

Around the same time as my trip, Brooke posted images on social media of an Eiffel Tower ink painting she had just completed. The artwork immediately caught my attention because it reminded me so much of my recent trip to Paris.

Inspired by the painting, I messaged Brooke to express my admiration for the painting and shared how much it resonated with me. I mentioned that I would love to own one of her paintings someday. Brooke responded by asking about my preferences for the size of the painting and my desired price point. After some back and forth regarding logistics, we reached an agreement, I was going to receive my very own Eiffel Tower ink painting by Brooke!

To begin the creative process, Brooke sent me a selection of images to serve as inspiration for the painting. Once I chose my favorite, she suggested a personal touch—adding me and my daughter into the scene. I was delighted by this idea and gladly sent her a few recent photos of us. Brooke took it from there and integrated our likenesses into the artwork.

Throughout the creation of the painting, Brooke kept me involved by sending progress pictures. She even consulted me in choosing a name for the finished piece, and together we decided on “Dreams of Paris.”  Robin- Johnston, Iowa
