Home Again in it’s Home:

Words from the collector:
I never in a million years thought I would commission a painting, but that’s just what I did! A painting Brooke made caught my eye and I thought about it many times after I saw it. When I saw the painting a year later, I knew I had to contact the artist. When I hit the send button on my first email to Brooke, I had no idea where my message would lead, but after wringing my hands over size, shape and subject, I took a leap and agreed to move ahead. I am so happy that I did!
I love the painting……I love the texture and the colors and that it represents a scene from a city I love. It turned a once forgotten wall into the centerpiece of my living room. I am so happy that I decided to hit that send button!!

Making the Painting:
The joy of creating art is the process.
Here is a behind the scenes glimpse including a surprise visitor who added extra magic to working on this piece.

A little green bird landed on my painting five times in one day!

The Big Reveal
It absolutely brightened my day to learn that there had been a party for this painting in it’s new home! And Jane gave me permission to share this with you:)

Friends and family gathered to witness Jane’s commission project. I particularly love that she roped off the living room so they couldn’t go in immediately! Hahhhh
As she said in her quote above, and told me too, she never considered herself the kind of person who would have a large painting made for herself.
Which made me curious, what kind of person commissions a painting?
I love that she became such a person!

Initially she thought she’d get something a fourth of the size of this. That would have meant less buildings or shrinking the scene down and losing some of the texture.
With the use of my Artrooms app, we tested various sizes and shapes on her wall. Our winning image depended on how the inclusion of her favorite green house (with the yellow trim on the right in the painting) and the yellow building at the bottom.
Other buildings got a impromptu color or architectural upgrade as I worked.

I had the honor of meeting Jane and a small fun entourage of her friends and family the day before I finished the painting! Before she arrived, she’d only seen the reference photo we’d selected and had been living with blue painters tape on her wall in the dimensions of the art being made.
She wanted to be surprised and for me to save a photo essay so she could see the process later. When she arrived at my place to meet, she didn’t know that the painting was far enough along to be seen.
I love surprises!
I also love that she embraced the idea to make a game of looking for the scene in real life with friends. Eventually she found the spot and sent me a photo from the location!
Often people want to know where a painting is located. That is one way to feel connected to the work.
However the connection and knowledge of art is always already in you the moment you stand in front of an artwork.
Your experience is the only knowledge that matters.

Thank you to everyone who has ever purchased my art. You are part of the history of the art I make…
And to all of you who have encouraged me, your words, cheers, love and reactions is part of the fuel for what I make, the perspectives that have helped me return to myself in the times I’ve felt lost.
I love you all.
You are the birds that bring magic to the process…and the reminder to fly 🙂
